Map Analysis: Green Market Distribution

There is a clear relationship between bike racks and green markets (other wise known as open air farmer's markets). There are many more green markets offered in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Likewise, there are more bike parking options strategically placed in relation to these markets.

In looking at the areas with the most green markets, Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn offered the most opportunities for residents to purchase fresh and local produce. Although the markets are somewhat evenly distributed in Manhattan, the tracts with the lower income are not provided with green markets. In Brookyn, there is a clear relationship between market locations and income. Tracts with higher income levels only contain green markets, thus providing less opportunity for lower income residences in Brooklyn to obtain healthier food options. Finally, Queens, while it has the least amount of markets and are widely distributed, the income pattern holds true. Most markets are strategically located in tracts with a higher median income.
